At the Gift of Speech, we are committed to the safety and well-being of all children and are a child-safe organisation. We recognise our responsibility to create and maintain a child-safe environment, where children are protected from abuse, neglect, and exploitation.
Welcome to
Gift of Speech
Many of the children we work with are members of the Vietnamese community in Fairfield and the surrounding areas, so we are familiar with how to cater to the unique speech therapy needs of Vietnamese families living in Australia. Our therapists are bilingual and offer therapy in Vietnamese and English.
Over the last 25 years, The Gift of Speech has helped many families with their family’s speech therapy needs, and our success rates are something we pride ourselves on. We are proud of the fact that our customers are happy and satisfied and are happy to recommend our services to family and friends.
We work in homes, schools and within our clinic in Fairfield. We help children and adults with disabilities meet their communication needs, including Key Word Signs, AAC and verbal communication.
Our Services
Speech Sounds
We can help your child to speak more clearly so that they can be understood by
you, your family and those within their community. Fun and engaging activities
make therapy fun.
Reading Comprehension
Reading is dependent on many factors so we can help you and your family to
understand why reading can appear to be difficult. We will help you build the
building blocks to make reading more fluent and accurate. Reading opens the
doors to a more expansive vocabulary and take you on experiences that
others have imagined for you. We can build skills to help you to understand
stories, understand questions and enjoy reading. This boosts your confidence
in both schoolwork and everyday life.
Social Skills
We use social skills programmes, including Social Thinking©, UCLA PEERS for Preschoolers, Teenagers, Adolescents and Adults. and believe in Neuroaffirming practices.
Late Talkers
By age three, your child should be using longer sentences and be increasing
their vocabulary extensively. If your child is not yet at this stage, we will
support your late talkers to use sentences by selecting the vocabulary (GAP
verbs) to help your child blossom.
Spelling
English is complex due to the many words that have borrowed origins.
We can help your child to crack the code to English phonics and develop their
confidence to try and spell unfamiliar words.
Stuttering
We provide techniques to make speech smoother and easier. With practice, speaking becomes less stressful and more confident.
Writing
We will teach your child how to organise their ideas and understand the key components of various writing genres (narratives, expositions, information reports) so that they can confidently tackle the writing demands of the classroom and beyond.
Developmental Language Disorder (DLD)
Did you know that DLD affects 1 in 14 people regardless of age, gender, language spoken or ethnicity, making it difficult for them to understand and use language? Imagine how difficult it would be for them to succeed at school, communicate with friends and family and limit your options for work. Despite popular belief, DLD is not a result of language confusion for multilingual speakers. See our team of certified speech pathologists who have a thorough understanding of the sound system of the English language, its development and strategies that will help with understanding and using language.
Autism
We believe that Autism is a neurodevelopmental difference and not something that needs fixing. We advocate that parents allow their children to understand their differences and to embrace their identity and help them to find their Autistic community.
We use a combination of verbal, gestures and AAC low and high tech to support an Autistic person’s communication journey. Early access to a communication tool to help your child to communicate will reduce behaviour and encourage independence.
